Lobsters are not deaf. Lobsters can hear sounds however they generally have poor hearing. Lobsters also have minimal eyesight but they are not deaf or blind.

Why do lobsters have to be cooked alive?
Cooking dead lobsters and eating dead lobsters may release toxins especially from the lobster brain. Lobsters and other shellfish have harmful bacteria naturally present in their flesh. Once the lobster is dead the bacteria will multiply rapidly and release toxins that cannot be destroyed by cooking.

Do lobsters die? There are many myths about lobsters including speculation that lobsters are immortal and lobsters scream when boiled alive. Both of these are false as its been proved that lobsters are voiceless creatures.

Do lobsters feel pain when boiled?
This question is still open for debate however it can be deduced that because lobsters have brains and respond to stimuli they would feel sensations when being cooked alive. The most visible sign of lobsters in pain is they twitch their tails as an escape reflex.

Lobsters aren’t immortal and definitely aren’t deaf.
